Barack Obama, in a Muslim robe and
turban dances with her in the Oval
Office while an American flag burns
in the fireplace. Is this from the
Ku Klux Klan? A swiftboat group?
Extreme right wingers? No It is on
the cover of the New Yorker
magazine, The New Yorker calls it
satire but it is racist, disgusting
garbage, an insult to senator Obama
and all Americans should feel
insulted.
This is on the cover of the New
Yorker dated July 21 2008. The
magazine says in its news release
preview of the issue that it is
meant as a satire of how right
wingers try to portray Obama, saying
the cartoonist satirizes the use of
scare tactics and misinformation
used in the Presidential election to
defeat senator
Obama.The story inside is titled
The Politics of Fear."
Senator Obama's campaign spokesman
Bill Burton said that the New Yorker
may think of it as a satire of the
caricature with which right wing
critics have tried to paint Obama.
He said the cartoon is tasteless and
offensive. A McCain spokesman said
they completely agree with the Obama
campaign that the cartoon is
tasteless and offensive.
When I first saw this I could not
believe a major magazine would print
it. I checked five different sites
before writing this. It is hard to
believe any group of people could
think this cartoon is in any way
appropriate. It is not funny, is not
satire, and is trash. I sincerely
hope this is the lowest point of the
campaign because if either side
posts anything worse than the New
Yorker garbage I will stop reading
anything political.
